Recovering very well from surgery all week, then Friday evening my calf muscle started aching. By Sunday evening I had excruciating pain in my calf, so bad that the heavy painkillers barely took the edge off. Describing my symptoms to Doc over the phone, he directed me to the hospital for an ultrasound thinking it may be a blood clot. No clot, but now I have two baffled doctors from the ortho center. After squeezing, poking, and bending they decide I need to get a MRI tomorrow.
"man that muscle is soft" they say, "it's not compartment syndrome, but what the hell is it?"
And the best part is the way the new doctor was looking at my surgery doc like "what the f*** do you do to her leg, bro?"

X-Ray and Oops!
I got an X-Ray tonite. Result...it's fractured pretty bad. Worst case senario... I may have to have surgery to get a pin/screw placed. Best case ...they weren't really sure. I have to go see an orthopedist tomorrow or thursday.
Like I said before...this sucks!
Surgery is in order. It's actually a shorter recovery time than just getting a cast. Plus, a cast doesn't mean I won't have to get the surgery later down the road.
It's happening on Friday at 4pm under heavvvvY sedation. I'll make sure of that.
Oh, did I forgot to tell you how I did it. Well, I was arriving at my friend Sharons house (the one that lives on the corner of Heward and Harden) and I was so excited to see her. I ran up her outside stairs in the dark and twisted my foot. The variables were: beer, dark, bricks and flip-flops. I am vowing to never wear flip-flops again. They are just not safe! The rest... I will do again.

Ouch! This sucks.
Well, it goes without saying that whenever shit heats up for me at work, I go and get hurt. Really the timing could not be worst. I have like 100 people coming in from all over the world to attend a Workshop that planning started last year. Now, three weeks out I've gone and sprained/broke/rolled my ankle/foot. I didn't go get an X-Ray because I think I'd be able to tell if it were broke. (please comment if you think I'm wrong).

Rollercoaster
It's official. Daddy is leaving tonite to go to Iraq. This sucks. He promises me that he will be in a safe area. His company has a clause in the contract that they can't go beyond "the wire", or out on patrol. I've known for months that this day would come, but I'm still having a problem processing the news. Ho Hum.
Here's to my daddy. I love you.

TV Turnoff Week, April 23-29
I love my TV as much as the next gal. But next week, I'm going to make a conscious effort to break the cycle of viewing. I'm hoping that I'll have a TV is for Suckers type of epiphany and quit altogether.

Donkey Kong Climbs E2
Engineering students at the University of California Santa Cruz are paying homage to the eternal arcade game, Donkey Kong. Specifically they wanted to symbolize the success that a small team of creators/collaborators achieved in 1981.
They went from this pile:

I'm a Nursery.
It's official this year! Inspected and ready to sell me herbs. The All Locals Farmers Market is every other Saturday in Columbia. Check the Free Times for the location. It's exciting to finally sell the plants myself. I've always sold them at wholesale prices to places like Rosewood Market. Now, I can reap all the benefits of my hard work! Waa-ha-ha-ha! It's all mine!

Broken Record
What are the chances of a yo-yo event in Cola town, hosted by our own college radio station?
We shattered the damn record. About 900 people turned out. Read the article here. There's some video footage of us on WISTV web-site under featured videos. We made the 11 o'clock news!

ST. Patty's Day Fun and Friends
For the first year in a long time, I didn't made it down to the 5pts festival. I chose to spend the day with good friends in lew of 35,000 strangers. Sharon had her annual St. Pat's shindig with a Beulah's twist. Shamrockin' good time. Got 3rd place in an Extreme croquet match, played with really cute wee Irish, and had an across the street sing-a-long excursion. Here are the pictures:

Everything is going well with the little babies. The greenhouse tunnel is built. Transplanted ~100 plants on Saturday. Attempting to root Purple Sage and Lemon Thyme cuttings.

Kucinich for President 2008
Source Kucinich 2008 web-site:
I want to inspire America to take a new path, a different direction. I envision an America which has the capacity to reconnect with the heart of the world; an America which proceeds in the world optimistically and courageously. An America which understands that the world is interdependent, that it is inter-connected, and that what we do today impacts future generations. I want to break the shackles of fear which have deprived our citizens of rights. We need to change the way this country values humanity, so that instead of fear and lies, we can live our lives based on principles of peace and hope. We need to regain the trust of the American people and we need to have a government which trusts the American people. It's time for America to resume its glorious journey; time to reject shrinking jobs and wages, disappearing savings and rights; time to reject the detour towards fear and greed. It's time to look out upon the world for friends, not enemies; time to counter the control of corporations over our politics, our economy, our resources, and mass media. It's time for those who have much to help those who have little, by maintaining a progressive tax structure. It's time to tell the world that we wish to be their partner in peace, not their leader in war. Most of all, it is time for America to again be the land where dreams come true, because the government is on the side of its people.

Digital Mapping Techniques Workshop is a place for people who do what I do to get together one a year and share ideas and current projects. I owe my current position and knowledge to the help that many of the folks in the group have extended me in the past. That's why I am so excited to be hosting this International group here in my hometown. The planning has been quite an adventure so far, and I'm sure it's just the beginning.

3rd Place at Georgia State
We had a great time in Atlanta. The Highland Inn is a great old hotel built in 1927. It was a hip place in the Virginia Highland neighborhood, great for walking. On Saturday, the competition was at this crazy Shriners Mecca. Does anyone know what a Potentate is?? The yo-yo-ers and jugglers were amazing as usual. Kev won 3rd place in the competition in the advanced division. He was very pleased, since the comp was pretty stiff this year. For the first time, there was a girl in the contest, who really won over the judges and took 1st place in the freestyle competition.
Herb Set-up begins
A few years ago we came up with the engineering masterpiece for the lighting system. Kev's grandpa Cecil's walking stick lends itself to the design. Also his mom's antique Ice Cream Chairs, with the heart design are integral. We made a real effort to clean the area with bleach since the unexplainable problems I had last year.
I plan on starting the seeding tonight once all of the seed starting mix has been moistened sufficiently.
